Lots of racing in town this weekend, with the High School and Middle

Most areas around town are ready to go for Saturday. CMC is grooming
regularly on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, so their trails and the
Mineral Belt often are all groomed on these mornings. They are all in
great shape right now. The golf course has seen some grooming. The
lake has started to be groomed by the snowmobile club (looks like it
was groomed on Friday) and will begin to offer some great skate
skiing. They will likely be grooming St. Kevin gulch as well this
year.

I got around all 12 km with the groomer today, and there sure is a lot
of snow! Wind and loose snow means the track isn't always readily
visible, but it is well-marked all the way around in the more exposed
areas. We have 6 km 2-3x wide with a single classic track on the left
edge (trust me, it's there!) & an additional 6 km single wide (about 5
feet) through the woods and along CR 5/5A. Pretty nice!

I'm out of town thru Thursday next week, but Fritz says he'll come hit
it again early in the week. Enjoy!

Saturday 1/8 I groomed out the existing tracks, then pushed into the
'HMI woods' and further down along County Road 5, adding about 4 km to
our track for a total now of 12 km. The new area loops in and out of
the forest, so is wind sheltered and adds some variety. I skied it
yesterday, and though I couldn't skate all of it due to weak ankles
and a couple inches of new snow, going classic here and there worked
out pretty nice. It was a cool little tour! I plan on grooming
everything again tomorrow, so hopefully it warms up and folks can get
out and enjoy a faster track as this cold spell breaks. We have a
couple events upcoming - first is the inaugural Mt. Massive Biathlon
on Super Bowl Sunday Feb 6, sponsored by Lake County Rec. Check their

Friday Feb. 19th we're doing a moonlight ski and campfire, with food
and beverages. This is to benefit Lake County Music Students as they
raise funds for a band competition trip to Disneyland in June. We'll

I reset the 8 km of track 1/5, and will be doing some more later today
& tomorrow. There is a single classic track along the main loop, and
we are 2-3x wide in most areas for good skating. Next week I'll be
pushing into adjacent areas looking to add at least 4 km by end of
next week. New loops will wind in and out of forest, so lesser views
but less subject to wind as well. Enjoy!

great shape.

Colorado Mountain College groomed and tracked most of their trails on
Wednesday afternoon. Although they are a touch soft in places, they
are all ready to be skied.

The golf course groomed earlier this week, and the track is in decent
shape with some windblown snow over the top.

The 2 or so inches on top of Monday's grooming left us with a perfect layer of raw material to lay down some perfect corduroy. Get out there before the next batch of fresh falls. We will be grooming daily or every other day as needed through Christmas break.

Family of 5 visiting from Australia enjoyed the Mineral Belt yesterday and today. What a fantastic asset for your town. Both days great - especially after the grooming Monday morning. Skated the full loop today - clockwise - is that the best direction? Loved it, even though snow fairly wet. Aussies are used to that! Conditions good the whole way around but a bit variable. Typically 2" soft stuff on top of the groom. Toko hi flouro yellow worked pretty well except for a few miles up high. Quite a lot of foot holes in places. Hopefully the groomer got out late today to pack down that wet stuff for an overnight freeze.

Thanks to the Leadville community for this great facility.

Lots of fresh snow in the past few days.

CMC: Will not be groomed over break because they are out of session.
Probably good classic skiing as people track it out.

Mineral Belt: Groomed and tracked beautifully on Monday. A bit of
fresh snow since then. Was the hardest day to wax for yesterday that I
have had in a while (33 degrees and snowing).

Golf Course: Not groomed since the new snowfall.

Tenn Pass: Grooming every day. Trails are in good shape. Your best bet
for perfect grooming over the Christmas Break. Only $75 for a season
pass.

Cold, plentiful snow abounds. Skiing in almost all location, but bring
your rock skis. Nordic center has the best grooming on the weekends.

Timberline Trails and Mineral Belt Trail Grooming Report

As of 1700 today, 19 November 2010, all of the trails at Timberline Trails located on the Colorado Mountain College at Leadville Campus have been rolled. Additionally the Mineral Belt Trail has been rolled from the Dutch Henri Trailhead to Big Al’s (12^th Street). Early season conditions exist. Ski within your ability and at your own risk.

I think the County groomer headed out to Turquoise Lake yesterday
(some one did, at least). Looked to be groomed for both skating and
classic.

CMC rolled their trails yesterday. Not enough to get their big cat out, yet.

CMC will rolls the Mineral Belt today from Dutch Henri to at least 7th
street, if not farther. Again, not enough to get our the big cat, but
there might be some decent skiing in California Gulch.

No grooming on golf course yet, but there is enough snow to get some
classic skiing in out there.

Leadville trails aren't in great shape, due to a lack of snow. All is
groomed, but expect some dirt patches and some rougher skiing. Best
skating might be at the lake if you get it after the snowmobile club
grooms. Good striding on sections of the mineral belt.

Conditions for skiing are ok, considering that we don't have much snow.

College is all groomed, but has lots of dirt and rocks on their
trails. Be cautious when skiing there.

Mineral Belt is in pretty good shape, even though there is a track set
down the middle on some parts. A few pavement spots showing through,
but overall better skiing than the college.

The lake has some nice skating and is seeing some consistent grooming.

Golf course is a good option for a small skate. No track set out there.

Some folks got out and dragged the road. The skating is the best that
it has been all year on the road. Best for the first 2 miles or so.
Awesome classic tracks down to Mayqueen (for tracks set by people
skiing them in). Be aware - it's a mulituse road. Lots of drivers and

Turquoise Lake

2 inches of snow on Monday. Cold temperatures have kept the classic
skiing easy to wax for. Skiing from the top of the hill before Abe Lee
to Windy Point and beyond. Skating is good, especially down lower and
up higher. Skiing should hold up well, despite little snow in the
forecast. Still early season Turquoise Lake conditions, but hard to
beat right now.

Conditions: Great corduroy, 4" fresh snow to work with.

Other: Groomed from Lake County Animal Shelter to the landfill road. Still holding snow pretty well on that stretch. I will continue to work any new snow as long as nothing melts through in Evans Gulch.

Official Grooming has ended on all trails. There is great skiing still
to be had, as the crust skiing, both classic and skating, should be
great for another month.

Leadville Trails

CMC - Hasn't been groomed in a while, but should be good skiing if you
don't mind the fresh snow.

Mineral Belt - Good skiing on the upper parts of the trail. The trail
through town has melted to pavement.

Tenn Pass - This is the last weekend of grooming. Should be great
skiing for the last weekend.

Mt Massive Mush

Other: We have begun to put the trail in for the Mt Massive Mush sled dog race next weekend (Saturday and Sunday mornings, March 7 & 8). Please feel free to come out and ski the course this week, but please no dogs, snowmobile or walkers on the outer part of the course (the trail is still very soft and punchy, foot prints & sleds will damage the surface). Please come watch the race next weekend and do the Shelter Dog Shuffle on Saturday afternoon! Thanks.

There are no bad dogs, just bad dog owners. Dogs on both the Mineral Belt Trail and CMC's Timberline Trails need to be leashed. Your dog can't, so you clean up. Say NO to brown klister

The trails were all groomed at the end of last week and are in good
condition for either skating or classic. Look for the classic skiing
to get a bit trickier due to the warm weather in the coming week, but
the skating will only get faster! Enjoy.

Turquoise Lake
